Harajuku Girls

You often hear this word used in fashion talk and in Gwen Stefani’s songs, but does anybody really know what “Harajuku Girls” stands for? Just take a glance at Gwen’s music video “Wind It Up.” One can’t help but notice Gwen’s entourage, which is comprised of three Japanese girls dressed in a style of eclectic attire.

The name “Harajuku Girls” derives from girls in the Harajuku district of Tokyo, Japan. Many consider Harajuku the heart of Tokyo’s pop culture shopping district. Therefore, “Harajuku Girls” stand as fashion iconistas for the hip and trendy. They are notable for their funky hair dos and wigs, 7 in. platforms, wild make-up, and layers of mixed contemporary and Japanese style clothing. Such a style is said to parallel that of anime. For example, “Harajuku Girls” often emulate the “Sailor Moon” (sailor school girl) outfit, or a “Strawberry Shortcake”-like fashion.

In a collectivist society, these “Harajuku Girls” can express their individuality through their own unique style. For these girls, it is a way to be noticed and differentiated. Therefore, don’t expect to see the “Harajuku Girl” Style flourishing through every girl’s closet. “Harajuku Girls” are definitely the exception.

The Rap-Cat

My boyfriend literally woke me up last night to show me some video he saw on YouTube. Naturally, I hung up on him…but I did get a chance to check it out this morning. I must warn you, the beat is kinda catchy.

That’s So Hollywood

It was a month ago that Eddie Griffin tragically crashed and totaled a beautiful red Enzo during a charity event.  With many still in grief (ouch…..it does hurt to think about it), a memorial service was conducted Thursday night.  Outside the famous Chinese Theatre in Hollywood stood a shrine devoted to the deceased Ferrari.  People showed their respects and condolences with roses and candles.   Only in Hollywood would something like this take place!

“Girls Gone Wild” Creator in Trouble

The infamous self-made millionaire and “Girls Gone Wild” creator, Joe Francis, has gotten himself into a lot of legal troubles.  Francis was recently arrested and placed in a Florida jail cell for alleged tax evasion.  In jail, he got himself into even more trouble!  Francis was caught with pills - some anti-anxiety and sleeping meds.  Not only was it foolish to smuggle in such contraband, but to get caught the way he did is even more foolish.  How did Francis exactly get caught you ask?  He tried bribing a guard with $100 for a bottle of water.  That’s how!  Apparently, one doesn’t need brains to make millions.  Is that a good thing?

Anna Nicole’s Painting for Sale on eBay

Sadly enough to say, it looks as if everyone is trying to cash in on Anna Nicole’s fame. An eBAY seller is currently auctioning off a supposed 100% authentic Anna Nicole naked self-portrait, which she painted and signed herself. The selling price? Starting bid is a whopping $1,700,000! The auction ends April 15th, but as of now, no bidders yet. I am interested to see whether anybody will actually shell out that much cash for the painting.
